Houska Castle - The Gateway to Hell
History and Mythology Surrounding Houska
Castle Deep in the heart of the Czech Republic, hidden amidst dense forests, stands the mysterious Houska Castle, whose past is as dark as the legends that surround it. The castle, built in the 13th century, is known in folklore as the "Gateway to Hell."
Houska Castle was built under very unusual circumstances. It had no strategic location, did not serve as a royal residence, and was far away from the trade routes. But the strangest thing about its construction was that it apparently was intended more to imprison something than to defend against external threats. The main tower of the castle was built right over a huge hole in the ground, feared as an entrance to the underworld.
Legends and Appearances
Several legends surround this gloomy fortress, and one of the most common says that the hole is a direct connection to Hell, from which demonic creatures and horrifying ghosts rise. It is told that during the castle's construction, convicts were offered to wash away their sins by being lowered into the hole. The first ones who were lowered returned mad within seconds, marked by unimaginable fear.
The White Lady
Among the many ghosts that allegedly haunt the castle, the most well-known is the White Lady. This ghostly figure has been seen by many visitors and castle staff over the years. She is known to appear both during the day and at night hours and is characterized by a sad, quiet demeanor.
She is often seen in an old, white dress, which gives her her name. Many stories about the White Lady involve warnings or prophecies of misfortune. It is said that she appears in times of great need or before the death of a close family member.
Research and Investigations
Over the years, Houska Castle has attracted a considerable number of paranormal investigators and curious tourists. Many report unexplainable phenomena, such as sudden temperature changes, strange noises, and sightings of shadowy figures.
